ENERLAND POLYQUEST

ENERLAND POLYQUEST battery packs are the original high performance LiPo’s manufactured in Korea using PCB-Free ultrasonic welding, Enerland supplies the same cells to other companies such as Flight Power, PolyRC, PolyPro, Hyperion etc.

ENERLAND POLYQUEST range includes:

NEW!! LP Series 18c/27c lightweight

XP Series 20c/40c

XP Series 25c/40c large capacity

XQ Series 30c/50c

ENERLAND Poly-Quest's features include:

● Cells are tested and closely matched to each other during the assembly process to ensure reliable balanced cells.

● Unique sonic tab welding process with no circuit boards used allows packs to put out more power.

● New cell chemistry means no spacers required from 2007 onwards, results in smaller profile packs.

● New stiff plastic wrap under heatshrink better protects battery pack from damage.

● Balance leads from 700mah packs upwards for accurate charging and maintenance.

ENERLAND POLYQUEST cells are rated at 18c, 20c, 25c or 30c continuous maximum discharge, with bursts to 27c, 40c or 50c for up to 5 seconds with recovery periods of 1 minute between bursts minimum. These ratings are factory maximums and while the cells will perform at this level initially, their lifespan will be short. We do not recommend running any battery at the maximum rating unless you want ultimate performance at the sacrifice of lifespan.

From independent test results, we believe the batteries provide the best lifespan you set your discharge rates to around 75 to 80% of maximum continuous, IE 15c for 20c packs and 18-20c for 30c packs. Burst rates kept to 24c max for XP series and 30c max for XQ series will also help to maintain the lifespan of the pack. There is no problem running these packs up to their max ratings, but you must accept the fact that lifespan will be reduced. You will find a more detailed explanation of how to size your battery pack to suit your application at the bottom of the page.

Packs that are EMAIL TO ORDER can be quickly ordered in, lead time usually 10-14 days max. This is to ensure freshest battery cells are provided on large packs that are not fast sellers.

If the pack size/cell number you are after is not listed please email us as we can order in any configuration of PolyQuest pack, 2-12s in any mah!

Please note: we do not keep large inventories of Lithium Polymer batteries in stock for one very important reason, shelf life! Many flyers have purchased packs that have been sitting in shops or on the shelf for 12 months or more, and experienced a lack of performance; it is well known Lithium Polymer batteries lose their capacity and ratings over time. Our packs are always fresh from the factory, while it may take 1-2 weeks to get a large pack in, you can rest assured you are getting the freshest batteries available.

Another very important issue with LiPo batteries is storage temperatures! Factory data shows that lithium batteries that are charged then stored at 30 degrees can lose up to 20% of their rated capacity over as little as 3 months! All our battery stock is basement stored at a temperature of 10-20 degrees at a 50% charge rate or 3.8-3.9v nominal, the optimum storage conditions for long life. Factory data shows batteries stored in this manner exhibit less than 3% loss over 6-12 month periods.

LITHIUM POLYMER SAFETY & HANDLING

Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries must be handled with care. Charging should be done outside the house on an approved charger; there are many 12V smart chargers available that provide a safe charging environment. Never leave a battery unattended when charging!

A Lithium Polymer battery pack that is overcharged, charged at too high a voltage or on an incorrect or faulty charger, or discharged well below 3 volts per cell static, is a potential fire hazard, and can self ignite producing a lot of acrid smoke, not something you want inside the house! If any Lithium Polymer pack expands or “puffs” as known in the industry, then it should be immediately placed in a non combustible container outside, and either discharged and disposed of, or if you are not confident in doing this, please contact your supplier for disposal.

LITHIUM POLYMER USAGE & LIFESPAN

Discharge ratings printed on LiPo batteries are absolute maximum ratings, usually from the factory. Maybe 50% of the cells on the market are capable of their quoted rates, and even then their voltage usually sags close to 3v per cell. Battery size should be chosen so as to run the battery around 75-80% of its factory recommended maximum continuous discharge rate. By doing this you will increase the lifespan of your battery considerably.

You should NEVER discharge your battery completely as this will shorten its life and cause the cell to expand or go “gassy”. Do not rely on the LVC (low voltage cutoff) of your speed controller to tell you your battery is almost exhausted, it is better to stop flying when you reach about 80% discharge rate, this keeps battery temperatures down and extends the battery life. When first using a new battery pack, charge at 1/2c for the first couple of cycles, and do not fly at full throttle for the first few flights. Running your cells down to far so that they drop below 3.7v at rest will cause a loss in cycle number.

No one wants to get 20-30 charges out of their expensive battery pack and then find it will no longer hold its capacity. Reality is this happens ALL the time! The electric flight scene is still relatively new, and battery technology is in a learning stage. Yes we are getting impressive performance from the new generation of Lithium Polymer cells, but it is at a cost, the better you understand this, the more you will get from your equipment and your dollar!

Example 1: An 18A load from our Wemotec EDF (electric ducted fan) on our EXTREME POWER 3s1000mah 20c battery is close to the limit of the batteries ability at 18c, the voltage sags to 10v and heat generation is above what we feel are safe operating limits. By using our EXTREME POWER 3s1300mah 20c battery we are suddenly running at 14c, a zone where battery temperatures will stay lower and pack voltage remains well above 10v giving a lot more RPM. Battery cycle life will also be far greater. Weight difference between battery packs is only 22 grams yet thrust gain is 40 grams, the extra weight is not a big deal for a performance aircraft, the extra thrust is a welcome bonus!

Example 2: We set up one of our A10 twin ducted fan jets and WOT (wide open throttle) specs were 33 amps at 10.5 volts from a 70 amp power source. Using our EXTREME POWER 3s1700mah 20c battery we were running 19c+, our own testing showed the cells reached 60+ degrees after a full flight of half to full throttle, voltage sag from our tests showed a 9.8v pack voltage after the first minute. This equates to 28120rpm from our fans, or 290 grams of thrust per motor. Now drawing over 30 amps from any battery is serious power, it’s usually not in a park flyer, so a small weight gain is not such a big deal.

By going up 30 grams in weight we can use our EXTREME POWER 3s2200mah 25C battery. Suddenly that 33 amp load looks easy, we are in the 15c range, our voltage remains above 10.5v throughout the flight giving us approx’ 32,000+rpm per fan, or 390 grams of thrust per motor! I think you would agree that the extra 200 grams of thrust negate any effects the additional 30 grams of battery might have had!

Balancing: This is another very important aspect of Lithium Polymer technology. You should balance your packs after every flight. The higher discharge rate you run your battery at, the quicker it goes out of balance. What this means is each cell inside your battery pack is at a different voltage, your 3 cell pack may read 4.17 / 4.10 / 4.20 when fully charged, which means the highest cell was potentially overcharged during the cycle.

You cannot tell if your pack is out of balance without measuring each cell, or by connecting it to a balancer, so do not assume your battery is well balanced just because it appears ok. Charging your out of balance pack with a conventional serial connection charger will result in one or more of your cells being overcharged, this will result in permanent damage to the cell that is overcharged and will shorten the pack life.

Balancing your battery packs will give you better sustained power delivery and longer life, its worth it right??

Disclaimer

All EXTREME RADIO CONTROL Lithium Polymer Batteries are designed for RC use only, use in other applications is prohibited.  Battery charging & discharging and all facets of electric RC models and RC flight have the potential to cause serious injury to persons and damage to property.  In purchasing these products, the user agrees to accept responsibility for all such risks, and not to hold EXTREME Radio Control or its manufacturers, distributors, or retailers (including owners and employees) responsible for any accident, injury to persons, or damage to property.

EXTREME RADIO CONTROL checks both the individual cell voltages and the battery pack voltage for every POLY-QUEST & EXTREME POWER pack before we send them out. EXTREME RADIO CONTROL then warrantees all packs to have proper assembly and cell voltage at time of purchase. In the event that a customer finds defects in materials or assembly workmanship when the goods are received but unused, EXTREME RADIO CONTROL will replace such packs within Australia.

EXTEME RADIO CONTROL does not offer a general warranty for battery packs which have already been charged and discharged, or for which claims are made more than one week after receipt of said battery packs by the customer. Because the majority of Lithium Battery problems occur after initial use and are due to over charge/discharge of the packs, it is in most cases difficult to determine the cause of failure, and requires inspection by the manufacturer.

For packs that have been used and which the customer believes are defective, EXTREME RADIO CONTROL & their manufacturer have agreed to have these inspected at the factory, and replaced factory direct if defects are found. In the event that the pack is found not defective, the pack may be returned to the customer if desired, at the customer's expense.

The use of Lithium Polymer batteries in radio-controlled models is to be considered experimental, there is no long-term warranty expressed or implied by the manufacturers, distributors, or retailers with respect to the battery capacity, cycle life, storage, or discharge characteristics of POLY-QUEST & EXTREME POWER cells in RC use, nor in any other use or aspect.
